How to take photos of your pet
The better the photo, the better the portrait!
Hold the camera down at their eye level.
They don’t have to look directly in the camera, but make sure the eyes are visible
Try to take photos in natural light, but out of direct sunlight.
Harsh highlights and strong shadows on your pet make it difficult to accurately capture their coloring and markings
High quality images are best.
If taking photos on a smartphone, make sure the image isn’t pixelated or a screen shot (I need to be able to zoom in to see details)
If taking or acquiring a high resolution photo is not possible, send what you have and I’ll do my best to work from those images.
PHONE PHOTOGRAPHY TIP!
Have your pet in a sit or down stay (if possible 😂) while you get down on the floor at their level. Hold the camera about 1-2 feet away from their face to take the pictures. Take multiple photos, especially if they are cooperating and sitting nicely, so we have options to choose from!
If you zoom in to take a photo on a phone, it degrades the quality. It crops the image instead of zooming like a lens on a traditional camera.
Avoid using portrait mode on your phone. It can sometimes blur features on your pet in addition to the background.

Good Example *The natural light shows the true colors of the dog's fur. *Both eyes are well lit. *There are soft shadows and highlights on the ears and face, which create a sense of depth

Bad Example *Warm overhead light distorts the color and casts strong shadows obscuring fur patterns. *Can't see eyes clearly - eyes bring the portrait to life! *Photo taken from above can flatten the pet's face. *Portrait mode made the ears and chest blurry

Bad Example *Natural lighting is better, but half of the pet's face is obscured by a strong shadow. *The markings on the chest are hard to see due to the bright sunlight
